There were so many factors which lead to this controversial Emergency.
26 June 1975, President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed proclaimed emergency which is imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Now, on what bases this emergency imposed by Mrs. Indira Gandhi?
So the answer Mrs. Indira Gandhi gave was because of internal disturbance, which was not even close to the real reason.
So what were the reasons?
During the last five years, from 1970 onwards so many Supreme court decisions were against the central government, cases like Privy purse, Gokalnath, and Keshavnanda Bharti Case.

The JP movement, led by the freedom fighter Jay Prakash Narayan.
In the JP Movement, two states were involved which are Gujrat and Bihar, where all the students were opposing the state government in the year 1974-75.
Meanwhile, Mr. Raj Narayan who fought and lost against Mrs. Indira Gandhi in the general election of 1971, after losing the election Mr. Raj Narayan filed a case against Mrs. Indira Gandhi by stating that Mrs. Indira Gandhi did electoral malpractice.
And on 12 June 1975, the court announced the decision on the favor of Mr. Raj Narayan by saying that disqualify Indira Gandhi from Lok Sabha and barred her from contesting again for the next 6 years.
The next general election supposed to happen in the year 1976.
These all things cleared one thing that Mrs. Indira Gandhi can not be the Prime Minister.
Because if she will be disqualified from Lok Sabha, ethically she has resigned from the post of the Prime Minister.
So to avoid all this tussle and to remain in power, Mrs. Indira Gandhi imposed emergency to the President by saying the there was an internal disturbance going on in India.
